In the U.S., most diesel repair shops do not allow volunteers to perform repairs independently, because of:
• OSHA safety rules
• Insurance policies
• Legal liability if something goes wrong
That’s why volunteers typically have support and observation roles only, and can only participate under direct supervision.
Potential Roles of a Volunteer at Paramount Diesel Services
(supportive roles only, not primary responsibility)

Shop Assistant / Mechanic Helper:
-Help clean and organize the work area.
-Prepare tools and materials before and after repairs.
-Assist with basic disassembly of non-critical parts (filters, covers, hoses).
-Check fluid levels and perform simple visual inspections.

2. Logistics / Parts Support:
-Receive, sort, and stock incoming parts and supplies.
-Label inventory and keep parts storage organized.
-Prepare internal parts orders for technicians.

3. Basic Administrative Support (if applicable):
-Help record vehicle check-in/check-out data.
-Review work orders and inspection documents.

4. Cleaning and General Maintenance Support:
-Keep common areas and service bays clean.
-Collect shop waste and dispose of it properly.

5. Observer / Trainee:
-Shadow technicians during repairs to learn processes and tools.
-Document diagnostic steps for training purposes.
